we're still slogging away, preparing for the theatrical release of SAY UNCLE. we'll be in major markets the last weekend in april, and if we do well, we'll expand to some smaller ones shortly thereafter. i'm so thrilled that the film is going to get a chance to find an audience - i truly believe in what it says about the world we live in and the way we are afraid of one another. plus i think it's funny and heart-breaking.
i've been recurring on RELATED on the WB lately. it's a very fun show, with some terrific actors, brought to you by Marta Kaufmann, who created FRIENDS. it's worth checking out if you haven't already. Not sure how many episodes i'll appear in, when all is said and done, but i've done three so far and am having a great time.
i've just finished the third draft of the next script i want to direct - which i am writing with award-winning canadian playwright damien atkins. i can't say anything beyond i think it's the best thing i've ever written by about ten-fold. and it's going to cost about a jillion dollars to make. so if you're loaded, get in touch.
speaking of movies, here's my top five for the year - i still haven't seen MUNICH, so i can't weigh in on that yet. but the ones below are not to be missed.
1) brokeback mountain - i know, big surprise, but i find it gorgeous on every level (not just political ones). and heath ledger's performance is one of the greatest ever captured on celluloid. seriously.
2) capote - a wonderful, subtle chamber piece about the price we pay to serve our art (and our celebrity). philip seymour hoffman gives another astonishing performance.
3) walk the line - so far superior to last year's ray. both joaquin phoenix and reese do terrific work in a bio-pic that really sings.
4) syriana - it ain't easy to follow, but it's definitely worth the effort
5) the squid and the whale - great performances in a tight, smart movie
and mrs. henderson presents gets an honorable mention (if for no other reason that it has judi dench, among the finest ever to grace a screen)
be kind to one another
god knows we need it
xoxo
